February 22, 2018 at Cox Enterprises - Panel discussion on Civil Discourse.

Public Discourse
Connecting Through Effective Conversations
Most of us prefer to avoid conflict and for good reason.
When we express dissent, we run the risk of being ridiculed or ostracized. What is public discourse all about? How are public discourse and civility linked?
Significant moral and political issues and disagreements divide our public life. These conversations cannot be avoided - they are a matter
of public importance.

Our panelists included:

In the past three years we have hosted:

  • Peter Kageyama, internationally-recognized community development expert discussed how to build an emotionally engaged city
  • Dr. Jim Johnson, University of North Carolina, Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, discussed profound demographic trends and the major implications for our community and its economic development
  • Lee Fischer, President and CEO of CEOs for Cities, who shared ideas for connecting urban leaders as well as how to build and activate cross-sector teams called "clusters" to make real progress happen.
