Reforming Juvenile Justice--The Journey Matters

Join us for a leadership luncheon with Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shawn LaGrua. A Sandy Springs resident appointed in 2010 by Gov. Nathan Deal, Judge LaGrua is best known for creating and supervising “My Journey Matters,” her one-of a-kind alternative sentencing program for juvenile offenders which helped launch the Criminal Justice Reform Commission.

Judge LaGrua’s program, created in response to the growing number of teens and violent offenders coming before her, diverts teens from a lifetime of crime and incarceration. Participants are required to give updates on their lives, education and work. Those who succeed get applause and support. Those who don’t, face jail time or a lengthy prison sentence.

Since 2017, Leadership Sandy Springs classes have visited Judge LaGrua’s courtroom and become inspired by her unique approach to reforming juvenile justice. Join us and see why!

This will be held at Ray's on the River.
