Q&A
Q: How do I become a member of YLSS?
A: If you are a rising sophomore or junior, print out the application
found on this web site, complete it and mail to: Youth Leadership Sandy
Springs, P.O. Box 28007, Sandy Springs, GA 30358.
Q: What is the time commitment?
A: Class members are expected to participate in all activities
including a Saturday retreat in August, six half-day programs once a month
from September to April, class service project and spring graduation. The
retreat, service project and graduation ceremony will be on weekends or at
night and will not require a school absence.
Q: When will YLSS meet?
A: To avoid students missing the same classes each month, YLSS will vary
the times and days of the week that we meet. For example, we will meet
on a Tuesday or Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. then a Tuesday or Wednesday
from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will get a calendar of all our meeting
dates and times when you are accepted.
Q: Is there an attendance policy?
A: Yes, all class members are asked to sign an attendance contract and
pledge to attend all planned events. We realize emergencies arise and
have outlined attendance standards in the contract.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: Because we will be meeting with business, government and community
leaders, the dress will be business casual for program days. Jeans and
t-shirts will be acceptable for retreats and service project days.
Q: What is the cost to participate?
A: The cost is $500 per student. A limited number of partial scholarships
are available. Contact the director at YLSSDirector@leadershipsandysprings.org for
more information.
Q: Are there any requirements?
A: All YLSS students must provide their own transportation to and from
all events. Also, students must have an email that they check regularly
since all communications will be by email.
Q: What are the benefits of participating?
A: YLSS provides a unique opportunity to learn about your community but
also provides you the tools to become involved and make a difference. You
will work with a diverse group of students to see how the institutions within
a community connect and discover what role you can play.
