How do I become a member of YLSS?
Applications for the next class will be available on this site in January.   To be eligible for the class, you must be a rising sophomore or junior.

How much time will this take?
Mandatory program activities include an evening induction ceremony and Saturday retreat in August, six programs once a month from September to April, a class service project and a spring graduation. The induction, retreat, service project and graduation ceremony will be on weekends or at night and will not require a school absence.

When will YLSS meet?
To avoid students missing the same classes each month, YLSS will vary the times and days of the week that we meet. For example, we will meet on a Tuesday or Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. then a Tuesday or Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.   You will get a calendar of all our meeting dates and times.

Is there an attendance policy?
Yes, all class members are asked to sign an attendance contract and pledge to attend all planned events. We realize emergencies arise and have outlined attendance standards in the contract.

Is there a dress code?
Because we will be meeting with business, government and community leaders, the dress will be business casual for program days. Jeans and T-shirts will be acceptable for retreats and service project days.

What is the cost to participate?
The cost is $500 per student.  A limited number of partial scholarships are available.  Contact the director at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.

Are there any requirements?
All YLSS students must provide their own transportation to and from all events.  Also, students must have an email that they check regularly since all communications will be by email.
